Clorox (CLX) CEO Jerry Johnston was hospitalized after suffering an apparent heart attack late Wednesday afternoon.

The Oakland, Calif., bleach giant said the condition of Johnston, 58, is currently being evaluated by doctors.

"The thoughts and support of our entire company are with Jerry and his family at this time," said Robert W. Matschullat, presiding director of the company's board of directors.

Clorox shares were halted early Thursday.
