Liberty Media ( L) named former Dell ( DELL) exec Michael George to head up its QVC home shopping unit.

He will replace Doug Briggs, who is retiring.

George most recently served as the chief marketing officer and general manager of Dell's domestic consumer business in Austin, Texas. Previously he spent more than 16 years with McKinsey.

"We are very pleased to welcome Michael George to QVC and the Liberty family," said President Dob Bennett. "We are confident that Mr. George's strong blend of analytics and retail experience combined with his leadership qualities will result in a smooth transition from the outstanding stewardship of Doug Briggs."

On Friday, Liberty shares rose a penny to $7.77.
