Jakks Pacific ( JAKK) signed licensing deals that will allow it to make toys based on the popular children's TV show "Teletubbies" and another line of products around the Clifford The Big Red Dog property. Through the company's Teletubbies pact, Jakks will market and distribute toys in North America. The Malibu, Calif., toymaker plans to launch a Teletubbies plush product line in 2006. Teletubbies is an educational program geared toward children aged 3 years and under. The show's stars are colorful bear-like creatures that have TV screens on their stomachs. Under a separate toy agreement, Jakks will develop a range of Clifford items, including figures, electronics, puzzles and kites. Clifford, a large, red dog, was created by Norman Bridwell and the first of his books was published by Scholastic ( SCHL) in 1963. There are more than 115 million Clifford books in print. Shares of Jakks were down 34 cents at $18.07.
