Engelhard ( EC) posted a flat third quarter and said it expects to beat year-ago full-year earnings.

The Iselin, N.J., material sciences company made $58.5 million, or 48 cents a share, in the quarter ended Sept. 30, against the year-ago $59 million, or 47 cents a share. Sales rose to $1.2 billion from $995 million a year earlier.

"The company's earnings results were in line with expectations in the quarter," said CEO Barry W. Perry. "A balanced performance across our enterprise delivered strong revenue growth, enabling us to overcome weakness in certain served markets and the overall impact of a severe hurricane season."

Early Monday, Engelhard was at $27.29.
