MCI ( MCIP) agreed to buy managed security services provider NetSec for $105 million in cash. The acquisition of the closely held Herndon, Va., company comes at the end of a week in which Wall Street has been rife with rumors about a possible security acquisition for MCI, a big business-services telco that has been stung by the industry's eroding pricing structure. MCI said the acquisition accelerates its ability to deliver advanced security services by more than a year, further enabling it to meet the complex security requirements of its high-end customers worldwide. The companies expect to close the transaction within 30 days. "This acquisition accelerates MCI's strategy to deliver next generation IP-based security services to our business and government customers," said MCI's Jonathan Crane. MCI, of Ashburn, Va., said the deal positions MCI to focus additional resources on one of the fastest-growing segments of the security market, though it is complementary to its existing strategic security partnerships. On Wednesday, MCI fell 42 cents to $18.81.
