Updated from 1:10 p.m. ESTCrude oil prices closed modestly higher Tuesday after flirting with a five-month high Monday. The February futures contract has added 35 cents at $45.68 in floor trading, with traders looking ahead to Wednesday's weekly report on U.S. energy inventories. Prices surged to more than $47 a barrel Monday before closing moderately lower. Temporary hits to production in Norway and Iraq gave prices a temporary lift. There's also growing speculation that OPEC will decide on a second round of output cuts at its Jan. 20 meeting in Vienna. Unseasonably warm weather in the northern U.S. has put pressure on prices.
