Spirent ( SPM) named former Tellabs ( TLAB) executive Anders Gustafsson its new CEO.

The U.K.-based communications technology provider said Gustafsson had been at Naperville, Ill.-based Tellabs since 2000. He most recently held the post of senior executive vice president, global business operations. Before that he worked at Schaumburg, Ill., wireless giant Motorola ( MOT).

"Anders has an excellent background in the telecoms industry which is an important focus for the Spirent Group going forward," Spirent Chairman John Weston said. "His substantial experience of international operations, strong organizational capabilities and customer orientation, and sound strategic thinking will be invaluable to Spirent."

Tellabs said its global operations unit would start reporting to CEO Krish Prabhu.

On Tuesday, Spirent was flat at $4.34 and Tellabs was off 7 cents at $7.71.
