Comcast ( CMCSA) named Steve Burke, president of its Comcast Cable unit, to an added operating chief post.

The Burke move comes as the nation's largest cable television system operator reshuffles its executive ranks. Comcast Cable named Dave Watson executive vice president, operations and Mike Tallent executive vice president, finance and administration. The company said the reorganization would allow Watson and Tallent to assume greater responsibility for the day-to-day operations of Comcast Cable.

"Steve has done a fantastic job leading the tremendously successful integration of Comcast and AT&T Broadband over the past 18 months," Comcast CEO Brian Roberts said. "Steve is one of the outstanding leaders of the cable industry and has effectively been performing the functions of COO of Comcast for some time."

Burke has been president of Comcast Cable since 1998. Before joining Comcast, he worked at Walt Disney ( DIS), where he served as president of ABC Broadcasting.

On Tuesday, Comcast slipped 42 cents to $27.54.
