Wal-Mart ( WMT) said in a recorded update that April same-store sales remain on track to show a 4% to 6% rise over last year. The retailer said sales of Easter clothes and decorations were above plan in the week ended Friday, while Easter candy sales were roughly the same as in the year-ago period. Its strongest overall categories last week were food and Easter products. The strongest regions last week were the Northeast and Midwest, while traffic and the average transaction price were both higher. On Thursday, Wal-Mart said March same-store sales rose 6% from a year earlier, while total sales shot up 14% to $22.05 billion.
