Time for a wish list of things that would break us out of this range: 1. General Motors ( GM) numbers going higher on a better March, taking that stock back to $50. 2. Best Buy ( BBY) reporting a great number Wednesday morning and saying that high-end discretionary spending is terrific. 3. Home Depot ( HD) and Lowe's ( LOW) saying that this garden season is the best ever. 4. Nortel ( NT) saying that it has found nothing substantial in its redo of its books. 5. Charter ( CHTR) solving its Paul Allen problem and refinancing debt before interest rates go higher. 6. Phelps Dodge ( PD) declaring a special dividend and reinstituting a new dividend. 7. Same for Deere ( DE). 8. The keeper of the Dow booting Eastman Kodak ( EK) and substituting something that goes up occasionally. 9. United Technologies ( UTX) saying that business is well ahead of plan. 10. Intel ( INTC) saying that the notebook chip inventory buildup is over. If we could get three of these, any three, I think we could see a short-covering rally of some proportions. If we got five of them, we would retrace much of what we have lost. And if we get all 10? I'd take a couple of weeks' vacation immediately!
