Emmis Communications ( EMMS - Get Report) swung to a profit in the second quarter from a year ago on higher revenue in its radio, television and publishing segments.

The company earned $9.8 million, or 14 cents a share, in the second quarter compared with a loss of $4.6 million, or 13 cents a share, last year. Revenue were $155.7 million in the latest quarter compared with $143.2 million last year.

Among segments, revenue rose to $81.2 million from $55.4 million a year ago in its radio segment; rose to $18.5 million from $17.9 million in publishing; and $56.1 million from $55.4 million in television.

Analysts were forecasting earnings of 9 cents a share in the latest quarter and the shares were recently up $1.35, or 7%, on Instinet at $19.95.
