R.J. Reynolds Tobacco ( RJR) said Richard H. Bogan resigned as chief financial officer after less than a year on the job in order to pursue other business opportunities.

The company named Dianne M. Neal executive vice president and chief financial officer, effective immediately. She previously served as R.J. Reynolds' vice president of investor relations.

Bogan took the financial chief post at Reynolds just last July.

Neal joined R.J. Reynolds Tobacco in 1988 and held a number of financial management positions within the company's business units. In 1997, she was named vice president and controller. She took the post of vice president of investor relations in 1999.

Shares of R.J. Reynolds were down 89 cents, or 2.5%, to $35.30 in recent New York Stock Exchange trading.
