Costco's ( COST) said third-quarter earnings shot up 18% on a 6% jump in same-store sales.

In the quarter ended May 11, the wholesale membership club earned $153.8 million, or 33 cents a share, compared with $130.4 million, or 28 cents a share, last year. Overall sales rose 11% to $9.34 billion while comparable-warehouse sales jumped 6%.

Analysts surveyed by First Call were expecting earnings of 31 cents a share, on average.
