Prudential Financial's Profit Falls

Prudential Financial ( PRU) posted a fall in first-quarter profit Tuesday.

Prudential's financial-services business had net income of $197 million, or 39 cents a share, compared with $263 million, or 46 cents a share, a year ago.

Excluding special items, the segment's earnings were $303 million, or 58 cents a share, down from $336 million, or 59 cents a share, a year earlier.
