Mercury Interactive Corporation (Nasdaq:MERQ) may be taking on some of the people recently fired by Comverse Technology (Nasdaq:CMVT).

Mercury is looking to recruit about 30 people, and has contacted Comverse, which is in the process of its third wave of job cuts.

Comverse plans to lay off 1,200 people by year-end, half in its facilities abroad.

Mercury has been taking on people at a rate of about 15 a month. It has cooperated with downsizing companies in the past. For instance, when Microsoft shut down its Or Yehuda operation, Mercury took up some of its programmers.

Mercury's headquarters are in California, but the company maintains an R&D center in Israel that employs some 500 people.
