Drugstore chain Walgreen ( WAG) said its July same-store sales in locations open at least a year increased 11%.

The company reported total sales for the month of $2.41 billion, up 16.6% from $2.07 billion in the year-ago quarter. Pharmacy sales were up 22.2%.

Total comparable-store sales rose 11%, while comparable sales in the pharmacy department increased 17.5%.

The sales figures include 39 new stores opened in July.

Shares of Walgreen closed at $34.05 before the news Thursday.
