The latest developments on the Israeli spy ring seized in the United States:
French paper Le Monde reported in Tuesday's evening edition that the American investigation revealed some of the spies entered the U.S. under the cover of being Amdocs (NYSE:DOX) employees.
The paper said yesterday that the U.S. is investigating suspicions that an Israeli spy ring operated in the U.S. in recent months in an attempt to track suspected members of the Al Qaeda network.
Paris-based Intelligence Online reported that some 140 Israeli spies were located throughout the U.S., most of them using the cover of being art students.
The latest Le Monde edition publishes extensive quotes from a report on an inquiry mounted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Drug Enforcement Administration, Immigration and Naturalization Service, and the Air Force intelligence.
The writers of the report claim that some of the Israelis suspected of spying in the U.S. used the cover story that they were Amdocs workers. At least one detainee, who presented herself as an art student, was released on bail paid by an Amdocs representative.
Le Monde said that two of the detainees are Retalix (Nasdaq:RTLX) employees.
The paper also alleges that Nice Systems (Nasdaq:NICE) and Verint, formerly Comverse Infosys, assisted the spy ring by planting listening devices in equipment sold to American firms.
