Kopin Corp. ( KOPN) beat analyst expectations, posting a fourth-quarter loss of $7.1 million, or 10 cents a share, compared with a profit of $3.4 million, or 5 cents a share, in the year-ago period. Analysts had been expecting a loss of 12 cents a share, according to Thomson Financial/First Call.

Sales for the quarter fell to $15.4 million from $24.6 million last year.

The maker of flat panel displays and other technology products predicted overall single-digit sequential growth for the first quarter, as well as seasonal weakness in the wireless handset industry.

Shares of Kopin were recently up 4.5% to $9.77 in Instinet premarket trading after closing at $9.35 Thursday on the Nasdaq.
