Brocade ( BRCD) matched analysts' first-quarter consensus earnings estimate, while posting stronger-than-expected sales, and the networking storage outfit said it was comfortable with Wall Street's forecast for the next fiscal quarter.

For the first quarter ended Jan. 26, the company earned 5 cents a share, meeting estimates. Revenue totaled $123.1 million, while analysts were expecting $118.8 million. In the year-ago quarter, the company earned 13 cents a share with a top line of $165 million.

Analysts, according to First Call, expect the company to earn 6 cents a share on revenue of $127.9 million in the second quarter.

In Instinet extended trading after the close, Brocade was the volume leader, trading down 4.8% to $33.51.
