Serena Software's ( SRNA) third-quarter earnings were somewhat better than expected, and the company reaffirmed its full-year guidance.

The New York-based software maker said that excluding various items, it earned $6.8 million, or 17 cents a share, compared with $9.4 million, or 23 cents a share, last year. Analysts had been expecting the company to earn 15 cents a share on that basis in its third quarter.

Revenue fell to $23.2 million from $26 million a year ago.

The company said it expects to meet analysts' pro forma estimate of 17 cents a share in the fourth quarter.
