TARP Weighs on Dividends

Some banks that have repaid TARP, including JPMorgan Chase, U.S. Bancorp and State Street, would like to boost their depleted dividends, but are waiting for capital guidelines from regulators. Others, like Goldman and American Express, have held off on dividend hikes but appear positioned to raise payouts as well. Still others that never accepted bailout funds whether big players like Visa, or smaller banks like Southside Financial have already begun to do so.
