Starbucks (SBUX) knew it had something to enter the lexicon when it created a landing page specifically for the unicorn frappuccino, a drink so outlandish both in name and appearance that it inspired countless jokes and memes.
But as the Seattle-based coffee giant knows, it has to keep evolving to stay in a competitive marketplace, appealing to all kinds of tastes to prevent its legions of fans from spending their daily $5 drink order elsewhere.
In the first part of 2016, the National Coffee Association found that $225 billion was spent on coffee in the U.S., accounting for nearly 1.6% of total GDP. Of that, $19.3 billion was spent specifically at coffee shops, according to findings produced by the Specialty Coffee Association, a membership association.
Henceforth, Starbucks knows it needs to stave off the likes of Blue Bottle Coffee, Peet's Coffee & Tea, Dunkin Brands (DNKN) and other small coffee shops, or risk facing the wrath of shareholders. Some have wondered whether new CEO Kevin Johnson is up for the task of replacing Howard Schultz, Starbucks's legendary co-founder and executive chairman.
Enter the secret Starbucks menu.
Not heavily publicized by the company or even officially acknowledged, there are a number of secret drinks customers can order to get their daily dose of caffeine.
Here are ten drinks customers can order from the Starbucks secret menu. Unfortunately, none of them will be on the list this Friday when Starbucks runs its latest free drinks promotion.
Similar to the unicorn frappuccino in color, the Dragon Frappuccino is a reported combination of a green tea frappuccino, vanilla bean powder and a berry swirl.
It's popped up all over Instagram -- no word though if Ja Rule is planning a concert on an exotic island around it.

What's better than a good old-fashioned oatmeal breakfast?
Drinking it instead.
An oatmeal latte combines oatmeal with milk as opposed to word and a couple shots of espresso.
It can also be topped with brown sugar or nuts if you so desire.

It's made from mango and orange puree, two scoops of vanilla bean and some coconut milk.
Don't forget to bring some home for later.
No, it's not a drink made to please the coolest insect out there; it's there to hydrate you and keep the pep in your step.
It's made from a mocha Frappuccino, combined with java chips and a little bit of peppermint syrup to give it that cool, greenish-brown hue.

What's better than one candy bar? Two of course -- especially if it's a Twix.
A drink inspired by the the popular candy bars, the Twix Frappuccino is essentially just a caramel frappuccino on steroids.

Perhaps the newest creation on the secret menu is one that's inspired by a Starburst candy.
The Narwhal Frappuccino (as so named by Perez Hilton) is a combination of a drink already on the secret menu (strawberry lemonade), along with vanilla bean powder.
