Preparing for the LSAT? Though it can be incredibly intimidating to think about, the LSAT is just like any other test that you’ve taken before in high school and/or college. With these tips, you should be able to more comfortably take the test without losing your marbles, and at best, you’ll ace the whole thing.

Tips for Acing the LSAT

Have ample LSAT Prep

As is with any major test or examination, the most important thing to do is prepare. You don’t know what’s going to come out in the test, and until you do, you’re going to have to prepare for just about any situation. This level of preparation takes a lot of time and effort, so to prevent yourself from getting overwhelmed on day 1, it’s important to set up a study schedule as soon as possible.

With your weekly planner or calendar, mark the dates and times when you should be studying. Be sure that your study time doesn’t conflict with any existing appointments, and try to schedule it for a time when you know you won’t be disturbed by family or friends (such as late in the night or early in the morning). To make your schedule even more detailed, list down the topics you want to review or study each day leading up to the day of the LSAT so you can easily track your progress.

Try not to overwhelm yourself when planning your schedule. Setting aside one or two hours in a day is great, but trying to cram an entire afternoon for studying will just lead to stress and burnout, and you’re unlikely to remember everything in one sitting. By keeping your sessions small and spaced out, you won’t be swamped with everything at once.

Read LSAT books

The LSAT is a standardized test, and when it comes to these types of tests, there are review books out there to help. These books are written in the format of the LSAT so that you can at least get an idea of what to expect. Of course, it’s very unlikely that one of the exact questions or case studies you’ll be reviewing in the book will end up on the test, but you’ll at least know how to better prepare for the LSAT by studying books related to it.

Have an environment that’s easy to learn and study in

No matter how many LSAT books you buy or how well you plan your schedule, it can be difficult to make progress in a dirty and disorganized environment. If you feel stuffed or sore during your study session, you won’t be able to get in the mood for studying. Having a comfortable seat to study in, such as an ergonomic chair, can make you feel more comfortable and can make studying a little easier.

Stay focused

Finally, it’s important to stay focused. Some people may find it difficult to not give in to distractions, so it’s best to remove anything that can cause you to move away from your reviewing material. Turn off your phone, close your Internet browser, and start studying. Have a mug for coffee if you need the caffeine to stay alert while you study and get ready to learn.
