President Donald Trump tweeted late Thursday that he intends to nominate Eugene Scalia, a lawyer and the son of the late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, for Secretary of Labor.
Scalia previously served in the George W. Bush administration.
I am pleased to announce that it is my intention to nominate Gene Scalia as the new Secretary of Labor. Gene has led a life of great success in the legal and labor field and is highly respected not only as a lawyer, but as a lawyer with great experience....— Donald J. If approved by the Senate, Scalia will succeed former labor secretary Alex Acosta.
Acosta, a former federal prosecutor, resigned under pressure earlier this month amid criticism of how he handled a sex crimes case involving the financier Jeffrey Epstein when Acosta was a federal prosecutor in Florida.
