Trump Adviser Roger Stone Is Indicted by Special Counsel Mueller
Roger Stone, a former adviser to Donald Trump, was indicted by special counsel Robert Mueller and arrested Friday on seven counts, including charges of obstruction, giving false statements and witness tampering, according to multiple reports.
Some of the false statements Stone made were to the House intelligence committee, according to the indictment, which was expected.
Stone has been under the special counsel's microscope over his alleged connection to WikiLeaks and hacked Democratic emails released by the site during the 2016 presidential campaign. He has repeatedly denied any collusion with WikiLeaks, NBC News reported.
Stone was arrested in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He is expected to make an initial appearance Friday in a federal courthouse at 11 a.m. ET.
The New York Times noted that Stone's indictment was the first public move in months by Mueller, who is investigating Russia's interference in the 2016 election and possible coordination with Trump associates.
Stone has long maintained that he had no connection to Russia's attempts to disrupt the 2016 presidential election.
CNN reported how police raided Stone's house, and the news agency said it witnessed uniformed and armed law enforcement approach the house just after 6 a.m. ET in Fort Lauderdale.
This is a developing story.
