Sarkozy Pledges Support for Greece

PARIS (TheStreet) -- French President Nicolas Sarkozy delivered a strong pledge of support for Greece, although he declined to specify the measures France and other eurozone countries would take to help Greece, which is seeking to recover from a debt crisis that threatens the continent.

Athens has said it will take tough measures to reduce its budget deficit, and Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou is in the midst of a four-city tour seeking to rally support from the EU and the U.S., an

report noted.

"The Greek government ... took the measures asked of it. Eurozone states must now be ready to take theirs," Sarkozy said at a news conference, according to the report.

His vow to support Greece was short on specifics, however.

"Concrete, precise methods exist -- ones we don't need to communicate about tonight, certainly not," he said, according the

. "But they will allow us -- when the time comes -- to show that Greece isn't just supported politically but supported in all the aspects of its eventual requests."
