Following Attorney General Letitia James' scathing report on multiple instances of sexual harassment and pressure from New York State politicians, the public, and the press, Andrew Cuomo announced that he will be stepping down from office on August 24th, 2021.

The governor had been adamant about staying in power but the backlash from reports of 11 women who came forward with charges of sexual harassment finally changed the governor's mind.

In his televised statement, Cuomo said, "The best way I can help now is if I step aside and let the government get back to government and therefore, that's what I'll do...I work for you and doing the right thing is doing the right thing for you".
