Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker told reporters Monday a special prosecutor's investigation of possible collusion between the Trump presidential campaign and Russia may be nearing completion.

The comments came during a press conference discussing charges filed by the Dept. of Justice against officials of Chinese phone maker Huawei.

Whitaker said he'd been "fully briefed" on the investigation being conducted by special prosecutor Robert Mueller.

"I hope that we can get the report from Director Mueller as soon as possible," Whitaker said at the press conference.

Trump has repeatedly expressed frustration with the lengthy investigation, which has ensnared several of his closest confidants, including his former personal lawyer Michael Cohen, his one-time campaign manager Paul Manafort and, in the latest example on Friday, Roger Stone, a personal political adviser to Trump.
