NEW YORK (

TheStreet

) -- Timothy Geithner may be ready to step away from his post at the head of the Treasury Department, according to a

Bloomberg News

report.

The

article

, which cited three undisclosed people familiar with the matter, said Geithner is considering leaving the Obama administration once the contentious talks about lifting the debt ceiling are completed.

Geithner apparently hasn't made a final decision yet,

Bloomberg

said, and one source said he won't look to do so until the debt ceiling issue is resolved.

A White House spokesperson declined comment to

Bloomberg

about the report. Prior to taking the Treasury Secretary post, Geithner was president of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
