The Trump administration is seeking to formally begin the 90-day North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) renegotiation period before Congress goes on its April recess, Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross told CNBC Thursday afternoon.

Additionally, Ross downplayed the contents of such a proposal to altering NAFTA, indicating the Trump administration is targeting only modest changes to the trade agreement.

"There's no change in our thinking ... I don't think there's any great reason for you to overthink it," Ross said.
