We get that you're thrilled to be done with tax season. Especially because now you get to focus on better seasons - like baseball and spring - and finally drag out the patio furniture for those outdoor cocktails.

Those are all great things -- but please don't put your tax return away just yet.

While your Form 1040, at one point, may have been the bane of your existence, it actually is a blessing in disguise, because it can give you an early jump on your 2017 tax planning.

So maybe take an hour or so (while you're having those al fresco cocktails?), and go through your return and figure out the few things you can change now to make life better this time next year.
