Walgreen (WAG) said same-store sales rose 8.6% in February.
The Deerfield, Ill., drug store chain said total sales for the month rose 13.4% from a year ago to $4.3 billion.
February pharmacy sales increased 14.3%, while comparable pharmacy sales increased 10%. Total prescriptions filled at comparable stores increased 5.7%. Pharmacy sales accounted for 64.4% of total sales for the month.
Comparable store front-end sales increased 6.1% during February. Wall Street tracks front-end sales because they tend to be more profitable than sales elsewhere in the store.
