Looking for a job? Here's a cool opportunity that just might be a great new start for the right person.
The position: Cheerleader for the Dallas Cowboys
Job duties: You would perform as part of the cheerleading squad for all Dallas Cowboys games, along with other events. In addition to performing cheers and dance routines at games, the squad also represents the Dallas Cowboys franchise at community events, charity functions and other occasions.
The company: The Dallas Cowboys are an NFL team. The team – which has given itself the nickname "America's Team" - plays home games in the new Cowboys Stadium, located in Arlington, Texas. The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders made their debut in the 1972-73 NFL season.
Requirements: Must be in great shape, with excellent athletic/fitness abilities. Prior cheerleading or dancing experience is a big help. A friendly and outgoing personality is a must. Must be at least 18, with a high school diploma or GED. Must live (or relocate to) the Dallas area and have reliable means of transportation. If selected, a one-year contractual commitment is required. During cheering season, mandatory rehearsals are held several nights per week. While no specific height/weight criteria are given, candidates must be able to fit into the squad's skimpy uniform. Those who make the squad must avoid weight gain.
Extra perks: Besides getting to attend every Cowboys home game, cheerleaders also get lots of opportunity to travel. There are several away games each season, and cheerleaders also travel to exotic locations for the photo shoot for the squad's annual calendar. The squad also entertains military troops around the world as part of the USO tour. Cheerleaders are paid $50 per home game, with additional paid appearances and shows available.
Interesting info: Auditions begin May 15 and consist of a multi-step process, starting with a freestyle dance, moving on to the semi-finals, interviews, written tests and final selections. The auditions are taped for television specials, so there's the chance to be on national television even if you don't make the final squad.
Other opportunities: The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders also holds auditions in the summer for a special "show squad" consisting of 12 cheerleaders.
