NEW YORK (MainStreet) — For most companies, free shipping is a perk that is given out only sparingly – perhaps during the holidays or with some minimum purchase amount, but for shoppers at L.L. Bean, every day will now be free shipping day.

L.L. Bean, the popular outdoor gear and apparel store, announced Thursday that it will provide free shipping for all products delivered in the U.S. and Canada, with no minimum purchase, effective as of Friday.

The company tested the offer for several months recently as a limited-time promotion and found the response to be overwhelmingly positive (no surprise there!). The current offer will be good forever.

"Our customers want and value free shipping. It's our opportunity to offer free shipping for all U.S. and Canadian customers with no minimum purchase, no end date, no conditions — guaranteed,” Chris McCormick, president and CEO of L.L. Bean, said in a statement.

This move places L.L. Bean, a brick-and-mortar outfit, in the company of Zappos, an e-commerce giant that has also waived shipping costs, and potentially gives the company a price advantage against its competitors in the retail market.

Even before this move, L.L. Bean had been fairly progressive with its shopping policies, perhaps most notably for removing a time limit on returns. Now you can order a product on a whim, have it shipped to your home free of charge, and return it two years later if you decide it’s not right for you. The only way this could be easier is if they decided to stop charging for their products altogether.

Your move, Wal-Mart.
