Another reason to use cash instead of plastic: The touch of money can be good for both your mental and physical health, according to a recent study.

Feeling cash can dampen the emotional pain of exclusion from a group and even the physical pain of scalding hot water, according to a study at the University of Minnesota noted by

“…Having money made people feel strong, possibly providing a coping mechanism for whatever negative experiences they encountered next,” according to Discovery.

Counting appropriately proportioned paper slips instead of actual cash won’t work, so forget about spending Monopoly money.  In fact, you don’t even have to spend to reap the benefits.  Plus, counting cash just once can have a positive effect on perception of pain, Discovery explained.

And while dwelling on money that you don’t have can lead to negative emotional and physical effects, simply looking at pictures of money can ease pain as well, researchers say.
