Black Friday doesn’t start until a month before Christmas, and retailers have always been keen to get an early jump on the holiday shopping season with various “pre-Black Friday” sales. This year, with retailers hoping to see gains over last year’s shopping season - and with Hanukkah starting just a week after Thanksgiving – the early sales are coming fast and furious.
Combine that with the various freebies and sales offered in conjunction with Halloween, you get a sort of “Orange Friday” this year (coining a term I doubt will catch on). In any case, here are a few of the places offering freebies and discounts this weekend.
The first of the retailer’s “Black Friday Now!” sales are going on Friday and Saturday. There are a few solid toys on sale here, including this Mattel Mind Flex game, marked down from $79.99 to $59.99. Still, most of what they have on sale is the usual seasonal clearance fodder for this time of year, like jeans (marked down to $9.99) and barbecue grills (like this Kenmore gas grill, marked down $250 to $449.88). Sears will be holding more two-day sales every weekend leading up to the real Black Friday.
Come in to any T.G.I. Friday’s in costume after 5 p.m. on Friday and get one of three free appetizers: Mozzarella Sticks, Pot Stickers or Crispy Green Bean Fries. What does this have to do with Halloween? Well, according to the restaurant’s Facebook page, they’re actually free “AAAH!PETIZERS.” They’re doing the same on Saturday, only this time they’re “FREE-KISH APPETIZERS.” And on Halloween itself, any child in costume gets a free kid’s meal with the purchase of an adult entrée.
Boston Market will also offer a free kid’s meal with an adult entrée, but the promotion lasts all weekend. And you don’t need to wear a costume – just print out this coupon. What does this have to do with Halloween? Who knows, but it’s free food. Maybe it’s scary good.
Toys ‘R’ Us
Toys ‘R’ Us is getting an early jump on things with a “2-Day Monster Sale” that lasts today and tomorrow only. There are plenty of early toys for the holiday season to be had at deep discounts, plus last-minute Halloween costumes like this Bumblee Transformers mask with built-in voice changer. And their Great Big Christmas Book, with thousands of toys and over $5,000 in savings, comes out this weekend; you can view it here starting on Halloween.
Most Houses in America
Go to pretty much any house in America this Sunday evening, and chances are the people there will give you some free candy. Some conditions apply – you usually have to be a child, and you have to be wearing a costume. Remember, this is a one-night deal only.
