NEW YORK (MainStreet) – Think shipping costs are a fact of life when it comes to shopping online?
Today, Friday Dec. 17, is the third annual Free Shipping Day, when online retailers across the country agree to ship some or all of their items for free. While many retailers were already offering free shipping with guaranteed Christmas delivery, the organizers of Free Shipping Day managed to get over 1,700 stores and websites on board for the event.
More than 1,000 of these will ship all of their items for free, with no minimum purchase required. Another 700 or so are offering limited free shipping, with some exclusions or minimum purchase requirements. Merchants like American Eagle, Zales, Airwalk, Borders and Ralph Lauren will be participating (and offer free shipping on all orders), though hundreds of smaller retailers and websites are participating as well.
With a few exceptions, all of the participating stores will be using standard ground shipping (though a few are offering express shipping, like Barnes and Noble with the code D9X9T7R). But every participating retailer has promised delivery by Christmas Eve so long as you live in the continental U.S.
