Free Scoop at Häagen-Dazs Today - TheStreet

Häagen-Dazs is turning 50 today and to celebrate its birthday, the popular ice cream chain is giving out free scoops at stores all around the country.

Häagen-Dazs ice cream was first created back in 1960 by Reuben and Rose Mattus, who emigrated from Poland. The name Häagen-Dazs doesn’t actually mean anything. The Mattuses just made it up to sound vaguely Scandinavian for marketing purposes.

The first Häagen-Dazs store opened in 1976. Now Häagen-Dazs offers sorbet, yogurt and (of course) ice cream in more than 65 flavors. Today, they will be giving out free scoops of the original three flavors: chocolate, vanilla and coffee.

The deal will be going on from 4 p.m.-8 p.m. this afternoon. Check out the Häagen-Dazs Web site to find a location near you.
