NEW YORK (MainStreet) – Consumers watching out for more bank fees in light of recent financial reforms should be happy to learn that there are still some perks attached to their debit or credit cards.
Bank of America (Stock Quote: BAC) announced late last week that it will expand its Museum on Us Program, which allows cardholders to visit participating cultural and educational institutions for free during the first full weekend of every month.
Now Bank of America and Merrill Lynch customers can now visit three additional museums in New Mexico and Ohio - the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center in Albuquerque, the SITE Santa Fe and the Great Lakes Science Center in Cleveland – once a month free of charge.
Bank of America also added museums in Bridgeport, Conn.; Savannah, Ga.; Raleigh-Durham, N.C.; Pittsburgh; Memphis, Tenn.; and Williamsburg, Va., to the program.
It now features a total of 150 institutions in 85 cities, including popular sites such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte, N.C., and the the National World War I Museum in Kansas City, Mo.
Check the program’s website for a complete list of participating locations.
The offer is valid the first full weekend of each month through Dec. 4, so BofA customers looking to visit their local museum can do so this weekend (Feb. 5-6) for free. Just present your Bank of America or Merrill Lynch credit or debit card along with a photo ID at the museum entrance.
Of course, there are caveats. The offer is not valid for special exhibitions, fundraising events or ticketed shows. It also can’t be combined with other offers and only grants a free pass to the cardholder.
Those looking to take the whole family for free will just have to wait for the Smithsonian’s annual Free Museum Admission Day in September.
