Woonsocket, R.I.,-based CVS said same-store sales rose 6.3% in October from last year. Pharmacy same-store sales rose 8.1% while front-end sales rose 2.4%. Overall sales increased 8.4% to $2.02 billion.
Deerfield, Ill.,-based Walgreen said same-store sales rose 12%, reflecting an 14.8% jump in same-store pharmacy sales. Total prescriptions filled rose 7.8% on a comparable basis.
Walgreen said overall October sales totaled $2.99 billion, up 16.6% from a year ago.
