J.C. Penney earned $14 million, or 6 cents per share compared with a loss of $1 million, or break even, in the year-ago period. Analysts were calling for a profit of 5 cents per share.

Nordstrom (JWN) - Get ReportReports In-Line

Top Line:

Revenue rose 12.7% to $2.42 billion on the back of an 8.4% increase in same-store sales.

Earnings:

Net income rose 38.6% to $146 million, or 66 cents per share, from $105 million, or 48 cents. The results were in line with estimates.

Outlook:

The company expects 2010 EPS at $2.50 to $2.65 per share.

Nvidia (NVDA) - Get ReportWidens Loss

Top Line:

Revenue rose 4.4% to $811.2 million.

Earnings:

The company reported a loss of $141 million, or 25 cents per share, versus a loss of $105.3 million, or 19 cents per share. Adjusted for items, net income was 3 cents per share. Analysts were expecting 11 cents.

Outlook:

The company expects revenue to grow 3% to 5%.

Autodesk (ADSK) - Get Report Beats Estimates

Top Line:

Revenue rose 14% to $473 million from the year-ago quarter.

Earnings:

Improving operating margins drove earnings to $59.9 million, or 25 cents per share, from $10.5 million, or 5 cents per share. Adjusted for items, earnings per share was 36 cents. Analysts were expecting 27 cents per share.

Outlook:

The company expects revenue in third quarter in the range of $450 million and $475 million and third quarter GAAP earnings to be between 18 cents and 23 cents

Kohl's (KSS) - Get Report Trims Estimates

Top Line:

Sales grew 8% to $4.1 billion on the back of a 5.9% increase in same- store sales.

Earnings:

Profit rose 14% to $260 million or 84 cents per share from $229 million or 75 cents in the year-ago period. Analysts forecast 82 cents.

Outlook:

Kohl's lowered the higher range of its full-year EPS outlook to $ 3.70 from $3.75 earlier.

Sara Lee (SLE) Swings to Profit

Top Line:

Sales grew 4.2% to $2.8 billion on the impact of a favorable sales mix and an extra week.

Earnings:

Profit came in at $187 million versus a loss of $ 14 million in the year-ago quarter. Adjusted earnings were at 19 cents versus 26 cents a year ago. Analysts were expecting earnings of 16 cents a share on revenue of $2.86 billion.

Outlook:

Sara Lee is providing guidance for full-year adjusted EPS from continuing operations of 88 cents to 95 cents a share vs. the consensus estimate of 94 cents a share.

Consolidated revenues declined 4% to $877 million on declining sales at Arby's.

Estee Lauder (EL) - Get Report Provides Low Forecast

Top Line:

Sales rose 9% to $1.84 billion from $1.68 billion a year earlier.

Earnings:

Profit jumped to $23.9 million or 12 cents per share from a loss of $17.9 million or 9 cents per share a year earlier. Results excluding restructuring and pretax charges were 29 cents. Analysts were expecting 30 cents.

Outlook:

Diluted net earnings per share for the first quarter before charges associated with restructuring activities are projected to be between 67 and 80 cents, while full-year EPS is expected to come in between $2.80 and $3.05, lower than analyst expectations.

Outlook:

Cisco expects first quarter revenue up 18% to 20%.

Macy's (M) - Get Report Raises Guidance

Top Line:

Macy's sales jumped 7% to $5.54 billion from $5.16 billion, while same-store sales grew 4.9%.

Earnings:

Profit exploded to $147 million, or 35 cents per share, compared with $7 million, or 2 cents, in the year-ago period. Profit in the prior period was impacted by 18 cents related to restructuring charges. Analysts were calling for a profit of 29 cents per share.

Outlook:

Macy's raised its full-year EPS guidance to $1.85 to $1.90 from $1.75 to $1.80. Same store sales are expected to rise 4.2%.

Profit rose 89% to $248 million, or 65 cents per diluted share, from $131 million, or 35 cents per diluted share, a year earlier. Analysts were expecting 58 cents per share.

King Pharmaceuticals (KG) Profit Drops, Beats Expectations
