TSC 21: Index Posts Slight Loss

At the end of a down day for the markets, 14 companies were lower.

TheStreet.com 21 ended lower Friday, a day that the major averages finished to the downside following disappointing economic news.

The index closed at 1029.89, down 5.88 points, or 0.6%, from yesterday's finish at 1035.77. Despite the loss, it fared batter than the major market averages. The

Dow Jones Industrial Average

lost 79.83 points, or 0.9%, to close at 9153.97, and the

Nasdaq

was down 19.43 points, or 1.1%, to 1715.59.

led the decliners, falling 42 cents, or 4.6%, to $8.74.

Maytag

(MYG)

tumbled 80 cents, or 3.1%, to $24.65.

Bank of New York

(BK) - Get Report

shed 59 cents, or 2%, to $29.53,

Best Buy

(BBY) - Get Report

dropped 80 cents, or 1.8%, to $42.85, and

Cisco Systems

(CSCO) - Get Report

was down 34 cents, or 1.7%, to $19.15.

In all, there were 14 losers on Friday.
