TSC 21: Big Loss on Ho-Hum Day for Dow, Nasdaq - TheStreet

TheStreet.com 21 suffered a fairly substantial loss Friday, a day on which the

Dow

and

Nasdaq

were all but unchanged.

The TSC 21 finished the day down 18 points, or 1.6%, at 1085.61. Meanwhile, the broader markets were standing still: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed down 5 points, or 0.06%, at 9575, while the Nasdaq gained 3 points, or 0.2%, to 1915.

For the week, the TSC 21 ended down 16 points, or 1.5%, from last Friday's close of 1101.54. The index, created to act as an indicator for an economic recovery, has hovered around the 1100 mark for about three weeks now, but is still up 85.61 points, or 8.6%. It started on July 3 at 1000.

Seventeen of the individual TSC 21 components closed the day lower.

Maytag

( MYG) dropped 88 cents, or 3.1%, to $27.44 and

General Electric

(GE) - Get Report

fell 81 cents, or 2.7%, to $29.32 after it reported a drop in quarterly earnings. Also,

Continental

(CAL) - Get Report

shed 48 cents, or 2.3%, to $20.77.

Of the advancers,

Yahoo!

(YHOO)

added 41 cents, or 1%, to $43.16 and

Manpower

(MAN) - Get Report

was up 32 cents, or 0.8%, at $40.90. Additionally,

rose 2 cents, or 0.4%, to $5.38. Only four components finished the day higher.
