NEW YORK (
) -- Friday's trading session won't provide traders much in the way of major earnings releases or economic reports, leaving earnings from
Research In Motion
and other companies reporting late Thursday in the spotlight.
is set to release quarterly numbers at end of Thursday's trading session. The BlackBerry maker should report a profit of $1.04 a share, up from 83 cents a share in the year-ago period, according to a poll of analysts by Thomson Reuters.
Research In Motion's third-quarter release will come at the same time as reports from fellow smartphone maker
and video-game maker
are among a small group of companies set to report earnings before the start of trading Friday. There are no economic reports scheduled for release Friday.
The end of the week also marks the day contracts for stock index futures, stock index options, stock options and single stock futures all expire, known as "quadruple witching." Traders will be monitoring activity closely, as these quadruple witching expiration days typically lead to heightened volatility in the market.
