James J. Cramer chatted on Yahoo! on Monday, Dec. 13, at 5 p.m. EST. As with all chats, this transcript is unedited.

Creme_Delacramer:

Great to be here on another record-setter!

tjschill asks:

Aren't we at risk for a big selloff as fund mangers lock in gains for the year before year-end?

Creme_Delacramer:

Nah, too many people need to be in. All selloffs will be contained. I sure hope we get one so I could get more in, but that won't happen.

_21_male_australia asks:

What are your thoughts on Lycos?

Creme_Delacramer:

It is my third fave net stock after Yahoo! and AOL.

ggecko0 asks:

What's the one technology stock you would hold with confidence for the next 10 years? Cisco?

Creme_Delacramer:

You know me too well -- indeed it is Cisco.

lufml72 asks:

What are your top picks for 2000?

Creme_Delacramer:

Cisco, Nokia, Yahoo!, AOL, Oracle and Sun Microsystems.

ggecko0 asks:

What event or news do you think it will take to end the continued run-up in the momentum Internet stocks?

Creme_Delacramer:

I don't look at it like that. I think there will be various bumps and disappointments, but I would be more worried about the non-Net stocks than the Net stocks.

agesli asks:

Any hope for the drug stocks? Will Pfizer prevail? And if it does, will it have been worth it?

Creme_Delacramer:

No, no and, uh, no.

_21_male_australia asks:

What are your thoughts on Go2Net?

Creme_Delacramer:

Seems like a winner to me. I missed it. Hang me.

mobygc52 asks:

As a new investor, would Abbott Labs be a good long-term investment?

Creme_Delacramer:

I don't know you; I know Abbott Labs -- there is nothing special happening there.

cy6228 asks:

What is going on with Copper Mountain Networks? Any good stock in the DSL area?

Creme_Delacramer:

I don't care for DSLAM plays. There are too many of them. I prefer the Ciscos, the Nortels and the Lucents.

erikarnold_96145 asks:

What does Chartman say about Rite Aid?

Creme_Delacramer:

You gotta go to Chartman. Let me put in a plug for this guy: I think he is unbelievably good. I think he has helped me make more money than just about anybody!

dougieO asks:

Can Adforce and 24/7 Media appreciate in value as much as DoubleClick?

Creme_Delacramer:

I am long DoubleClick and I think that it has the mo', but there is room for more than just that company.

GHuhn88397 asks:

What do you think of Broadcom at these prices?

Creme_Delacramer:

I am long Broadcom, George, and I think it has excellent momentum -- much more than those REITs! (LOL)

GHuhn88397 asks:

When does AOL membership growth slow?

Creme_Delacramer:

I don't see it happening anytime soon. The company is still in the massive adoption phase.

mindhiker asks:

Will Novell compete long term?

Creme_Delacramer:

Personally, I don't think so.

eepwlg asks:

The lawyers are circling Tyco. What's your take? Long Tyco?

Creme_Delacramer:

I think that is now a push. I think that it could be dead money, which in this market is dangerous.

bryanb2000_2000 asks:

Why do you like Be Free?

Creme_Delacramer:

Holy cow, because this business model just rocks. I bet we get a short squeeze in this one soon, as I don't think LinkShare has killer patents. I don't know if you heard about the debate between the two, but I think it is bogus. There is room for all, and Be Free is my fave in the affinity marketing group. It is like AOL meets MadAve.

kibear_98 asks:

Do you think that the Nasdaq can match this year's gain next year?

Creme_Delacramer:

People have been saying no to questions like that for years, so I will be as bold as to say, Sure!

ukrb asks:

With the Nasdaq up 600% this decade and the S&P 500 up only 300% , if you were setting up a portfolio for the next decade, what percentage weighting would you ascribe to each index ?

Creme_Delacramer:

I would put the whole shooting match in the Red Hot and B2B indices!

dougieO asks:

Viacom, with the merger of CBS, looks to be a money-making machine. Do you think this will be the best media stock in 2000?

Creme_Delacramer:

I hope so. It is the only one that I am long.

FastActinTinactin asks:

How do companies with billions of shares outstanding split and grow?

Creme_Delacramer:

Look at Cisco, Intel or Microsoft. They do it with superior execution and superior management.

elmonorman asks:

Still like BEA Systems?

Creme_Delacramer:

Love BEA.

Pirategrrrrl asks:

Oracle took a little dip today. Are you a long-term buyer or holder of Oracle at this point?

Creme_Delacramer:

Bought some more today, which is why I mentioned it in the stocks that can click. This was down because of some sort of product introduction away from Oracle. I thought it was an opportunity.

jimfink asks:

Can you elaborate on the comment you made the other day regarding Xilinx and Altera? Are these chip stocks good buys, or are you worried something is wrong?

Creme_Delacramer:

I think nothing it wrong, which is what worries me so much. They seem to be terminal. I am glad to see you be civil to me after our email contretemps, Mr. Fink.

Mitch_Stewart asks:

Your opinion on CNet? I enjoy its weekend TV program. (I also like "TheStreet.Com" on

Fox News

.)

Creme_Delacramer:

Thanks for the kudos. I think CNet has its act together. I have to tell you that when I saw Gary B Smith say this one is going to 100, I made up my mind to get some in, but then I got sidetracked and didn't get a chance to buy.

TinkerandHooker asks:

Will FedEx start to capitalize on Internet shipping and supply management?

Creme_Delacramer:

Yes, I think it is already. I am long UPS because I think it might be the same kind of play.

DenverAIR asks:

Hey, are Internet stocks a good buy?

Creme_Delacramer:

I think they are. I am long them, and I buy them.

elmonorman asks:

Will E*Trade start to rock-and-roll soon? If yes, why?

Creme_Delacramer:

I am long the stock. I think these guys have to clear up this Telebanc thing, as it's really hanging over the stock.

jv1995 asks:

What do you think the market will do in the first part of the year?

Creme_Delacramer:

Go up.

Mitch_Stewart asks:

Why aren't the e-brokers moving with all of this record volume on the Nasdaq?

Creme_Delacramer:

I think the market is wrong, and I think they should be bought.

georun asks:

How do you like Dell?

Creme_Delacramer:

As a laptop, I love it. As a stock, no thanks.

ggecko0 asks:

What are your favorite B2B stocks for next year?

Creme_Delacramer:

Ariba, VerticalNet, Be Free, VeriSign and Internet Capital Group.

yingyangadager asks:

The action in Intel today looked expiration related -- when is this thing gonna rock again (long Intel forever!)?

Creme_Delacramer:

I have to tell you that I think people don't understand that intel is expanding rapidly out of the personal computer segment and I feel strongly that it is a communications chip co.

elmonorman asks:

What's your take in the action in SAP today, up 7 1/2?

Creme_Delacramer:

That stock is smoking. SAP. SAPE and SEBL are revenge of the nerd non net stocks.

jv1995 asks:

How long did it take for you to really understand the markets?

Creme_Delacramer:

Ten years.

bigcat567_1999 asks:

Jim, What are your thoughts on JDSU short term, and T 1 to 2 yrs. out. Also any chance of getting Jim Seymour more involved on the street? Thanks.

Creme_Delacramer:

I love JDSU and am long and think it will be very big. I wish Jim Seymour would do more but it is not up to me. You know if you read me that I think he is the best tech writer in America.

mindhiker asks:

Are you still 40% cash?

Creme_Delacramer:

Yes.

ggecko0 asks:

Has dell seen it's best days behind it?

Creme_Delacramer:

Yes.

tjschill asks:

Jim, what's the likelihood the fed goes to a tightening bias and we have a big selloff as a result?

Creme_Delacramer:

I don't see that happening before the election and I think you are going to continue to see a robust market.

bigcat567_1999 asks:

Jim, What do think is holding UPS stock back? Thanks.

Creme_Delacramer:

OIl, very big float, sloppy sellers.

Sara2340 asks:

What do you think will happen to Delhaize stock?

Creme_Delacramer:

I am not close enough to that one, sorry.

TinkerandHooker asks:

Many internet sites don't charge and their stocks sky rocket. Why is your stock price so low?

Creme_Delacramer:

I think that is a good question. I think our business model needs re-tooling. We have to offer more free and then entice people to buy specialized products. But much more free is right.

_21_male_australia asks:

A few months ago you said the only Nets you were long were AOL and YHOO - what has changed since then (apart from price rises) to change your mind?

Creme_Delacramer:

Nothing. I am still long AOL and Yahoo.

choosyg asks:

Where will VerticalNet go from here?

Creme_Delacramer:

Vertical!

VJV06 asks:

Hi Cramer...what do you think of RNWK?

Creme_Delacramer:

I should have bought this today as I keep missing every single downturn to buy. I think this company has a bright future.

TinkerandHooker asks:

Will this Linux craze subside and which stocks are you a buyer of?

Creme_Delacramer:

Linux is another befuddlement to me. I think that you can't expect to see the revenues people are expecting, but they are so far off nobody seems to care. This VA Linux seems like the best one.

georun asks:

What's your favorite Red Hot?

Creme_Delacramer:

Oh that is hard, right now I guess I would say Redback.

krizzy65 asks:

What should I invest in if I only have about $1,500 dollars to work with?

Creme_Delacramer:

Oh man, I don't know your situation and I think that a mutual fund would be best. You should check all of our personal finance stuff for answers.

choosyg asks:

Is it time to go back to stocks like Best Buy?

Creme_Delacramer:

I would rather shop there than by the stock.

choosyg asks:

Is PMCS going to be RedHot again now that it was added to the NASDAQ100?

Creme_Delacramer:

I don't think that will affect it. I am long it though and what should affect it is the strong tone of business--and it is smoking.

Glubman asks:

INTC looking good today in the face of a downgrade, is now a good entry point and what do you envision for the stock in 2000?

Creme_Delacramer:

I think that this company is so well run and so strong.

elmonorman asks:

Is the 30 year bond headed for under 6%? Y2k could bring in a lot of foreign money.

Creme_Delacramer:

I think the 30 year isn't going anywhere. I don't buy the y2k money argument either.

mindhiker asks:

If you see the market going up next 6 months, why are you 40% in cash?

Creme_Delacramer:

That is an excellent question. I fully expect that there will be a giant short term selloff that will create a better opportunity to get in then we have now, that's why.

mstick99 asks:

EGAN or KANA? and why?

Creme_Delacramer:

I like KANA more but that is because I have used and love the product.

robertwelliott asks:

What do you make of the action in NOK?

Creme_Delacramer:

The Fins keep selling it everyday. I think that it has moved up too fast and has to settle in but it remains a great long.

golf72_1998 asks:

Why do u think Yahoo is going to go way up, why not a stock like sportsline?

Creme_Delacramer:

Cause Yahoo's better than sportsline, that's why.

mstick99 asks:

Any MICRO cap funds you like?

Creme_Delacramer:

No, too dicey.

elmonorman asks:

Which tech fund manager do you most respect?

Creme_Delacramer:

The guy who runs the Janus global tech fund, he is a real whiz, I also respect Dan Benton from Pequot immensely. He may be the best there is.

rockport20 asks:

Doctor Cramer, is there a fund for b2b stocks, preferably an index fund for b2b stocks?

Creme_Delacramer:

No, I think that some wise marketer--or TSC itself--should take my rotisserie league picks and make a unit trust of them.

CABob39 asks:

Is Microsoft worried about Linux and should MSFT stock holders be worried?

Creme_Delacramer:

No and NO.

abecker1 asks:

Do you still do Squawk? Haven't seen you in a while, but maybe I just haven't been watching on Wednesdays as much.

Creme_Delacramer:

No, I don't. I would like to but I respect the fact that they now regard me as a competitor because our Fox show is doing so well. I would not expect to see me back on Squawk any time soon. I do love those guys, but business concerns at the TSC level changed everything, and I am a team player.

GHuhn88397 asks:

Jim, are you short anything now?

Creme_Delacramer:

NO.

krizzy65 asks:

What do you do to relax?

Creme_Delacramer:

If you HAD to put 50% of your money in one stock, what would it be?

Creme_Delacramer:

CSCO.

Glubman asks:

Lucent or Nortel?

Creme_Delacramer:

Oh don't make me choose-- I have equal positions in both.

mstick99 asks:

Of the health way stocks -- drkoop, webmd, planetrx, etc what ones do you like?

Creme_Delacramer:

They all make me yawn.

doringer asks:

The breakup value of Philip Morris is higher than its current stock price. If they split up the company doesn't it look like a great stock to own? I know Goldman Sachs still loves it.

Creme_Delacramer:

No, you would be sharing the proceeds with the mass tort bar I am afraid.

elmonorman asks:

How does the trading goddess view this market right now?

Creme_Delacramer:

Trading Goddess likes the tape. She says that any pullbacks will be short and sweet.

sirpukesalot asks:

Who would win in a fist fight, you or Lou Rychiser?

Creme_Delacramer:

Considering that I work out with a speed bag and a heavy bag and I take it pretty seriously, you can put him in here and I will knock the stuffings out of him--throw in abelson too!!

golf72_1998 asks:

What about VA (value america)?

Creme_Delacramer:

I don't care for value america.

rockport20 asks:

Cramer, name a couple stocks that you would like to go long for at least 2 to 5 yrs?

Creme_Delacramer:

I love csco and sunw and yahoo and aol and orcl and nokia and intel and worldcom and microsoft but I also love some of these new b2bs--see the rotisserie league.

FastActinTinactin asks:

Ten years from now, a stock someone will say, "damn I wish I owned that stock".

Creme_Delacramer:

YHOO.

scooterrage asks:

Jim, your comments on Japanization of stocks today was interesting, can you elaborate?

Creme_Delacramer:

If we don't pause and we continue with an aggressive trajectory then we will get hurt. But if we pause and do it gradually as earnings catch up and the fundamentals stay strong we will avoid the Japanization problem.

sdcgnt asks:

Like or dislike Tellabs-TLAB?

Creme_Delacramer:

I am thinking that TLAB is now old tech., I like others better--like REDBACK!!

elmonorman asks:

Who should the Eagles draft this year, Warrick or Arrington?

Creme_Delacramer:

Warrick--not even an issue.

Creme_Delacramer:

I think so and I remain long AMAT.

Creme_Delacramer:

Seems like a good pick, you know I like csco more.

brucelulla asks:

As you are married to a TA & have expressed your respect for Gary Smith: do you use TA much these days?

Creme_Delacramer:

I have always kept one eye on the chart but I will never be as influenced by it as much as when my wife worked with me. We would go through printouts of charts for hours and hours in bed with icecream!!!!!!!

mr_tiki_tiki asks:

How many years have you been involved with the internet?

Creme_Delacramer:

Since 1995.

elmonorman asks:

Do you like any pc tech, DELL, GTW ,AAPL?

Creme_Delacramer:

Sorry, I don't.

discount218_99 asks:

etrade, schwab, or ameritrade?

dougieO asks:

Some guy at the blackjack tables in Vegas told me to mortgage my house and buy WIND RIVER.. Should I do that or should I continue playing blackjack.

Creme_Delacramer:

Continue to play blackjack.

choosyg asks:

Would it be wise to wait for a pullback before buying any tech stocks that have already made big moves? Like many people, I have been waiting for the big pullback that never comes.

Creme_Delacramer:

I think you have to have something in right now and then wait.

Glubman asks:

Thoughts on Razorfish?

Creme_Delacramer:

Oh boy, this is a good one that I missed and I am angry at myself for missing it because I know they do high quality work.

BudFox_1998 asks:

HAL and SLB have come way down, go buy?

Creme_Delacramer:

BUD, Blue Horshoe says no.

annieflock asks:

Any thoughts on ITRA or PERL?

Creme_Delacramer:

Not close enough to them--PERL pretty controversial.

jb5484 asks:

Why does Abelson feel he has take shots at you guys?

Creme_Delacramer:

Not you guys--just me. Hey look, I have never said I am the nicest guy in the world, I have written many critical things about him, many, and I think you could say I have it coming.

bull_fighter_y2k asks:

Cramer, what about mci+sprint merger?

Creme_Delacramer:

Taking its time. I am long.

Portals, ecommerce, b2b, networking, whats the next big tech trend?

Is SUNW a stock who's P/E ratio is irrelevant?

Creme_Delacramer:

Sure seems that way.

Creme_Delacramer:

Stock seems stalled but I bet it goes higher.

mstick99 asks:

What do think of QQQ as a way to play the techs?

Creme_Delacramer:

They are much harder to trade than people realize. They trade like broncos.

peyme asks:

Why don't you and your wife do a chat together someday.

ChatYahoo_Lisa:

GREAT IDEA!

Creme_Delacramer:

I would love it but she has enough to do without dragging her into a chat. She sure had a good time at the TSC X-Mas party though!!

sdcgnt asks:

Favorite microchip stocks?

Creme_Delacramer:

If you mean MCHP. I think that is a good one.

Creme_Delacramer:

urbancall asks:

What do you think is driving up the Nasdaq so high, the IPO's or the Large Cap stocks?

Creme_Delacramer:

I think everything NDX is moving up because fund managers want to show they were in these stocks.

mattf187 asks:

Can you explain why witcap is offering icge under its ipo offerings?

Creme_Delacramer:

I can't explain it. I can 't I am sorry.

Pirategrrrrl asks:

Matt Be Free Jacobs saw them last week and spoke highly of them.

dougieO asks:

Why the hell can't I get your show in Vegas and I can get the cooking channel. Emeril is good but you are the king of cuisine!!!

Creme_Delacramer:

This breaks my heart. It kills me that these cable operators don't take Fox News Channel. What do they want?? No wonder cable companies are so unpopular. By the way the main reason we don't put the cable moderator back in was because CMSCK did such a sloppy job.

vectorlee asks:

Jim do you think anti-virus software company stocks would be good to buy.

Creme_Delacramer:

They are okay, I am not crazy about them.

nwcapitalist asks:

Creme_Delacramer:

Nah, Matt Be Free Jacobs is a behind the scenes guy.

brucelulla asks:

You have underestimated Red Hat the stock, J Seymour has, everyone I know has: why? We must be missing something?

Creme_Delacramer:

Bruce, as you know, I am humbled often by the markets. I am too out there. Most managers would say something like "I saw that one coming." I say, "what an idiot I am."

thegrail2 asks:

Are you able to hold any stocks for 12 mos in the nasdaq mkt?

Creme_Delacramer:

Sure, Grail man.

Creme_Delacramer:

Oh man, Hobsons choice. They are all losers I am afraid.

clhcurtis asks:

BUD used to be a major holding of yours. How's the position look today?

ChatYahoo_Lisa:

Thanks for another great chat Jim....and, thanks for a terrific year.....see you in 2000!
