said third-quarter earnings will top existing analyst estimates thanks to better-than-expected performance in practically all of its segments.
The company expects to earn 30 cents to 33 cents a share in the quarter, which ends Sept. 30. Analysts surveyed by Thomson First Call expect the company to earn 29 cents a share, on average.
RadioShack said it was forced to issue a press release containing the outlook after its CEO inadvertently told a newspaper reporter the company's earnings were tracking "at or above the upper range" of estimates in an interview. Disclosure was required under the
CEO Leonard Roberts also said, "We're on a roll right now. The results will show that we're making the right decisions."
The shares were up $1.06, or 3.6%, to $30.56.
