Bank earnings have been impressive, particularly fromGoldman Sachs (GS) - Get Report . Can Morgan Stanley (MS) - Get Report  keep the sector momentum going when it reports results Wednesday before the open?

"Morgan [Stanley] did not deliver a good quarter last time," TheStreet's Jim Cramer, co-manager of the Action Alerts PLUS portfolio, said from the floor of the New York Stock Exchange Tuesday.

James Gorman is a very good CEO, Cramer said. It's hard to image he won't deliver a better earnings result this time around, which is why Cramer expects to see improved earnings.

Not from American Express (AXP) - Get Report , however. Cramer said AmEx has been nothing but "disappointing, disappointing, disappointing." Without a change in management, that disappointment will likely continue, Cramer said. The company is scheduled to report earnings Wednesday after the close.

He's hoping to hear more about the company's new small business lending program. That's likely to weigh on rivals such as Square (SQ) - Get Report , which is "troubled" to begin with, Cramer concluded.
