Ariel Sharon, the 77-year-old prime minister of Israel, reportedly suffered his second stroke in three weeks, and has been hospitalized in Jerusalem.
Sharon, who is in the process of running for re-election, is on a respirator at Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital,
said. The Likud founder, who broke with his party last year, suffered his first stroke on Dec. 18.
According to the
, Sharon was taken by ambulance to the emergency room Wednesday night after complaining of chest pressure at his home in southern Israel. A local television report said he was taken into the hospital on a stretcher.
Before the latest incident, Sharon had been scheduled to undergo a minor heart procedure Thursday to correct an issue believed to be related to the first stroke.
