The company said it expects earnings before interest and taxes to be above $225 million, up from the original $175 million to $225 million range expected, due to better-than-expected results at its DirecTV U.S. business.

The company expects revenue to be between $2.2 billion and $2.25 billion, unchanged from its previous forecast. Hughes will announce its results on Oct. 14.

Hughes lowered its expected third-quarter DirecTV subscriber estimates to a range of 200,000 to 210,000, from its initial range of 250,000 to 300,000. Nevertheless, Hughes increased its forecast for DirecTV's earnings before taxes to $195 million from $150 million for the third quarter, due in part to cost reductions.
