Talk about bad timing. The July cover story of Upside and the August cover story of Red Herring both feature eBay (EBAY) - Get Report and Internet auctions. Planned months in advance, the stories feature a congratulatory tone that's at odds with the shakiness investors have been feeling in eBay after the company's recent technology glitches.
After its outage last month, eBay lost some $6 billion in market cap. And it is still far from making it back.
Plus, with both
making a big splash with their own auction offerings, eBay's stranglehold on online auctions is no longer assured. Tech-savvy and brand-strong Amazon and Yahoo! are not exactly wimpy competitors.
